What I hope to get done this year, broken down in steps. Current Status: Just moved to Victoria from Montreal after living my entire adult life there. It's Jan 1st 2021, I earn enough passive income not to have to work for a long time if ever, what do I do now?
1- Learn about corporate taxes and investing through multiple corporate accounts.
Reason: I don't want to have to keep working just to give the government my money. This required opening 2 corporations and paying a lawyer and accountant lots of money. Now I need to figure out how to shuffle money around, invest from them and do taxes.
I already have a decent investment knowledge base, this is just to figure out the logistics of banking / taxes.
Deadline: March 1st 2021
Steps:
- Contact lawyer / accountant to plan tax return. ETA: First week of 2021
- Spend at least 20 hours reading on the subject of shuffling money around corporate accounts. Average 30 mins per day until mid feb. Go from there. 2- Keep this blog updated and do a mid-year reassessment.
Reason: Keep myself accountable on all other goals and track my progress. Bi-weekly updates should suffice. Deadline: None
3- Find a place to live Reason: Can't live with my sister forever. Deadline: 3 Months. It is difficult to say with covid. I am looking for good places to start cycling as well and am unsure about the areas. Money is also a consideration. I haven't yet decided on renting vs buying. Steps: - Wait for more information from lawyers / accountants about taxes so that I can plan how much money I have to mess with. ETA: Start of Feb - Contact cyclists to see where people ride to/from so that I don't accidentally choose to live in a stupid area where no one else bikes. ETA: Dependant on covid - Read about tax benefits of buying vs renting and figure out renting vs buying calculations in the general area. ETA: 20 hours of reading on the subject before March 1st - Watch the market. Spend at least 1 hour per week looking at the rental and housing market on the Island. ETA: Ongoing until a place is found.
4- Put on 10 pounds of muscle
Reason: Don't want to look like a lil skinny fat bitch. I have been a cyclist for around 10 years now with little attention paid to other physical pursuits. Deadline: Jan 1st 2022
Steps: - 4-5 strength workouts per week until I move out. Then I will reassess depending on progress and / or where I end up living.
- Rework nutrition to some extent to possibly include new supplements. I already have good nutrition from cycling and previous fitness experience but it might need to be tweaked for this specific goal. ETA: First two weeks of 2021 5- Sell one altered Magic: The Gathering card
Reason: I buy/sell these cards already as a hobby and I do art for a living. Seems like a natural thing to attempt to do for fun and possibly extra money, but mostly because I feel bad not using my art skills. This goal is to be started after I move into my own place. Deadline: Jan 1st 2022
Steps:
- Read blogs/websites/ youtube channels from MTG alter artists to learn how they do it.
- Purchase required art supplies
- Practice on a few cards ( this might take long )
- Join facebook groups and start to try to sell a card or to take a commission. 6- Get a car. Reason: I have never needed or wanted a car. However I have moved away from a large city and may need to use said car for errands / deals / fun. Deadline: Summer 2021
Steps:
- Learn about buying used cars for 20 hours. ETA: March 1st 2021
- Watch the used buy/sell markets for 1 hour per week. ETA: Until car is found
I don't know enough to make more precise goals. 7- Discover 50 new songs Reason: I used to listen to a lot of music while working and have been slacking off. It can be hard to discover new songs that don't suck ass and new music is generally autotuned ear cancer that sounds like a gayer C3-PO being attacked by a trash compactor. Deadline: Jan 1st 2022
Steps: Listen to 2 hours of new music every week until goal is achieved.
8- Ride a Motorcycle Reason: Sounds cool. Deadline: Jan 1st 2022
Steps:
- A least 10 hours of research online on motorcycle riding. ETA: Summer 2021 - Contact local driving schools / clubs / whatever and go from there.
That's enough things for now, I'm very lazy.
