So these last two weeks were mostly focused on MTG alters and sports. Averaged 15 hours of cycling and 4 hours weight training. I'm on a pretty good roll as far as that goes. Staying lean, eating clean. As for art, joined many Facebook/discord communities, watched videos on painting and read a few articles. More importantly, I just did some alters with the supplies I had. The cards at the top are my very first 9 alters! Here's a brief explanation of them.
- I was just testing the paints real quick, extending the wings on this random card.
- You can see on the top left corner where I ripped off the painter's tape too fast. I painted it black after but lesson was learned: Peel the tape real slow because it will rip the top layer off the cards.
- Finding the paint very annoying and thick at this point.
- Spent a little more time on this one trying to get more detail. Used a Micron pen to finish it off, giving it a cartoon style I don't particularly like.
- It's at this point that I went on Ebay to see what kind of stuff sells. This is basically using a photo, carbon transfer and then paint. 3-4 hours. I'm having a lot of difficulty with the paint thickness and opacity. From what I see on Facebook from some other alterists, this is solvable.
- For this one I just matched a random card I had laying around with a meme I thought would fit. Turns out pandering was very popular! This took like 30 minutes, if I had better tools I could make a lot of these in a day.
- Quite proud of this one. The photo really makes the paint thickness stand out though. It's not that bad in person. Pretty popular on Facebook as well, but this card is trash and no one would play with this, so who knows what this would sell for. Took around 4 hours to make.
- Brainstorm card just based on my fav meme, the brainlet. Look it up.
- This actual playable card is just white paint and blue carbon transfer paper. It took a LOT of passes to get this effect with it, 4 hours total probably went into this. But that's really not a lot of time for artwork, all things considered, which is something I love about this entire concept. You can have an idea and be done with it in a day. With video games of Flash ( RIP ) videos like I used to make, it would take weeks, months or years to be done with a project and to have people see it. Anyway I will receive more art supplies shortly and already have a short list of things to research that I might need. Not ready to sell anything yet. See you next time, one person.
